The Most Common Computer Faults and What to Do About Them

Computers are complicated pieces of technology. As much as we love to use them, it can be frustrating when they don’t work as they should. Whether you’ve just bought a new laptop or desktop computer, and you’re having problems with it and don’t know where to start looking for help, here are some common faults and fixes to try if your computer won’t turn on, freezes all the time, or won’t remember anything.

Computer Won’t Turn On

If your computer won’t turn on, the first thing to do is check the power supply. Ensure the power cord is firmly plugged in at both ends and that the computer is turned on. Check that the power cord and computer are not in a place where they might be exposed to water or dust.

If the computer still won’t turn on, check the connection between the power supply and the computer. Unplug the computer and the power cord from the power source, then plug it back in. If this doesn’t work, try using a different power cord. Check that the power socket you’re using is working.

If your computer has a battery, remove it and make sure it’s charged. Then plug it in and reboot the computer. If the rechargeable battery is not being used, ensure that the battery is charged by plugging it into a power outlet.

If you still can’t turn your computer on, you might need to take it to a repair person to fix the problem.

Computer Freezes All the Time

If your computer freezes all the time, you might need to restart it. Make sure you save any work before you restart the computer.

To restart your computer, tap the Ctrl, Alt and Delete keys quickly. This should restart your computer.

If nothing else works and your computer is freezing up all the time, you might need to take it to a repair person to fix the problem.

Computer Doesn’t Remember Anything

If your computer doesn’t remember anything, you might need to restart it. Make sure you save any unsaved work before you restart the computer.

To restart your computer, tap the Ctrl, Alt and Delete keys quickly. This should restart your computer.

If you’ve made the computer forget information on purpose, such as clearing the cache to make room for new information, you can get it back later by pressing Ctrl, Alt and Delete all at the same time, then tapping the Num Lock key. Then, tap the key for the drive where you want to save information (probably C:) then tap Delete. After that, tap Enter.

Smashed Screen

If your computer’s screen is smashed and the computer won’t turn on, the monitor is most likely the problem and needs to be replaced. You can buy a replacement monitor online and get instructions on installing it. You can also take the computer to a repair person to fix it.

In a Nutshell

While computers are one of the most sophisticated machines today, they still have their fair share of issues. One way or another, these computer-related problems are sure to disrupt your daily routine if left unaddressed. Some of these issues can be easily fixed, while others need to be brought to the experts for more complex repairs.
